Read Steve Neff's review of the Johannes Gerber Handmade Saxophone Mouthpieces original tenor VINTAGE model - since Steve's review, the body of the VINTAGE was altered to accommodate most standard tenor saxophone ligatures.
The Johannes Gerber VINTAGE tenor saxophone mouthpiece design is influenced by the famous vintage mouthpieces of the 1950's. The mouthpieces of the past though, vary quite a bit in consistency and design and the VINTAGE was designed after accumulating data from different 'Slant era' mouthpieces refaced over a long period of time.
Through Johannes Gerber's unique manufacturing method and world renowned hand finishing skills, the variables observed in mouthpieces of the 1950's are eliminated, offering the most consistently finished mouthpieces in the world today.
The VINTAGE retains the true sound and playbility of the best of 'Slant' mouthpieces of the past and features a medium-large chamber with rounded inner sidewalls and a medium height rollover baffle with meticulously finished side- and tip rails. This results in excellent projection with a wide dynamic range, excellent response with an even tone through all registers of the saxophone, effortless altissimo and sub-tones, and a full-bodied and lush tone with a colourful sound palette.
The VINTAGE features Johannes Gerber's unique in-house developed material which incorporates the best German vintage hard rubber, known for excellent resonant and wear characteristics.
